Chocolate Lovers Whoopie Pies with Coconut Pecan Filling and Ganache Drizzle
German Chocolate Cake is the cake of my dad's childhood. The recipe was published June 3, 1957 in the Dallas Morning Star and made for his 14th birthday by his Granny on July 10. Fifty years later he still loves this classic but prefers dark chocolate.
Second Prize: Candace Chan / CA
Malted Chocolate Ice Cream with Pretzel Bark
Ice cream is a classic dessert and perfect for those who are not inclined to baking, particularly on hot summer days. This recipe invokes memories of hand-spun chocolate malted milkshakes served in tall frosted glasses. It is simple, but wonderful all the same.
Third Prize: Linda Wang / CA
Tall, Dark and Sophisticated S'mores
"S'mores? I want to try one!" I exclaimed when I first read about this classic dessert in my Girls Scout Handbook. At our next barbeque, I made a sticky but delightful mess of burnt marshmallows, milk chocolate and crumbly graham crackers. Today, I'm still delighted by S'mores, but I prefer an elegant dessert made with good dark chocolate.
