SCHARFFEN BERGER Chocolate was founded in San Francisco by chocolate connoisseur Robert Steinberg and winemaker John Scharffenberger in 1997.
Cacao fruit grows on the Cacao tree, Theoroma Cacao so named in 1753 by botanist Carl Linnaeus. Theobroma is Greek for "food of the gods."
We source our beans from small cocoa farms, roast them long and slow to coax out subtle notes, and blend to create our distinctive flavors.
Our Cacao comes from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ Farms because we recognize the role cacao can play in preserving rainforest biodiversity.
We can proudly state that all of our SCHARFFEN BERGER Chocolate is made with cacao from Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms.
