SCHARFFEN BERGER Chocolate was founded in San Francisco by chocolate connoisseur Robert Steinberg and winemaker John Scharffenberger in 1996.
Cacao fruit grows on the Cacao tree, Theoroma Cacao so named in 1753 by botanist Carl Linnaeus. Theobroma is Greek for "food of the gods."
